MAJESTIE UNVEILS THE KING BEHIND THE KING JAMES BIBLE
Thomas Nelson Author David Teems to Celebrate Release at Landmark Booksellers in Franklin, Tenn. on Sunday, October 24
Nashville, Tenn. (October 19, 2010) - 2011 marks the 400th anniversary of the release of the King James Bible. Thomas Nelson Publishers has joined forces with The History Channel Club, The History Channel Magazine and Salem Communications to celebrate the event.
An early cornerstone of the celebration is the October 19, 2010 release of Thomas Nelson's Majestie: The King Behind the King James Bible by author and musician David Teems.
In this intriguing new biography, Teems employs a storyteller's eye for detail to explore the life and legacy of James Stuart, better known as James I, King of England, who commissioned the publication of the King James Version of the Bible (KJV). King James, it turns out, was a study in contradiction. Intellectually astute, he could be as ribald as he was eloquent. He showed flashes of brilliant leadership, but wallowed in petty differences. He could be dazzling, charming and polished, or coarse, vulgar and petulant. In short, Teems unveils James I of England as an all too flawed human being in need of redemption. And yet James and only James could have given us the great Bible that he did.
Majestie is already earning accolades from reviewers. Publishers Weekly calls it "...engrossing and entertaining... This early entry in a full-court press of books marking the 400th anniversary of the translation is a delightful read in every way."
On Sunday, October 24, after a whirlwind of street week interviews, Teems will be in his hometown of Franklin, Tennessee for a booksigning event at 4:30 p.m. CT at Landmark Booksellers in the city's historic downtown district. Readers can get a tantalizing preview of Majestie by checking out the new book trailer at youtube.com/watch?v=oneuBVcRvy8.
Although the KJV was not the first English language translation of Holy Scripture (John Wycliffe's hand-written translations pre-date it by more than 200 years), it is notable for being the first English language Bible that was widely available to the common people. The KJV, noted for its beauty and elegant use of language, has become one of the most beloved and influential books of all time.
James Tarbox, editor of The History Channel Magazine, comments, "There's no denying the impact the KJV, as the first widely accepted Bible for the masses, has had in forming the world we live in today."
David Teems earned his BA in Psychology and Philosophy at Georgia State University. He has been occupied in full-time ministry as a popular singer/songwriter with 7 albums to his credit, published songwriter, worship leader, contributor to Christian magazines, speaker and author. His other works include To Love is Christ (Thomas Nelson, 2005), And Thereby Hangs a Tale: What I Really Know About the Devoted Life I Learned from my Dogs (Harvest House, 2010). Teems and his wife Benita live in Franklin, Tenn. with their dog, Sophie. For more information about David Teems and Majestie, visit davidteems.com or thomasnelson.com.
